Contracts make the music industry go around. Well, copyright makes the industry go around and copyright is protected by contracts. At the top level this is certainly the case, but at smaller independent labels and bedroom labels, deals are often done with no contracts at all, rather friendship, trust or a the horribly sexist term, a “gentleman’s agreement” being enough to arrange a deal.
